Massage FAQs

Many people think of massage only as a way to relax and “pamper yourself” without realizing there are many therapeutic benefits.  Read through these frequently asked questions and answers to see if massage therapy is right for you.

What conditions respond well to massage therapy?

Grand Teton Chiropractic offers massage because of the many health and wellness benefits our clients will receive. Studies of the benefits of massage have revealed that massage is a great treatment for minimizing stress, pain, and muscle tension. Massage can also be beneficial for people who suffer from anxiety, digestive disorders, fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia, myofascial pain syndrome, nerve pain, soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, and TMJ pain to name a few.

What are the different types of massage?

There are many different types of massage and each of these can empower certain benefits. Some of the most popular modalities include the Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, sports massage, and trigger point massage.

Swedish massage is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, and deep circular movements to loosen and relax soft tissues. The use of vibration and tapping can also help relax and energize you.

Deep tissue massage uses slower more forceful strokes to target the deepest layers of muscles and connective tissues. This is commonly used to target muscle damage from injuries.

Sports massage is similar to Swedish massage but is geared towards a more active lifestyle to help prevent or treat injuries.

Trigger point massage focuses on tight muscle fibers that form in muscles because of overuse or injury.

Depending on your situation when you seek treatment we can use one or any mix of these modalities to best serve you and your needs.  For example, expectant women can get a tailored massage combining these techniques for the best experience. Some modalities of massage can leave you feeling a little sore the next day, but massage should never be too painful or uncomfortable. If any part of massage doesn’t feel right, speak up right away. It is your massage tailored specifically for you so that you can get the best treatment possible.

How long does it take?

The length of your massage depends on your goals for treatment.

30 minutes is a perfect length of time to address one small area such as the neck, upper or lower back, calves, etc.

60 minutes is great for a general full body massage, to address two small areas, or to focus on one large area such as the whole back.

90 minutes is the length most highly recommended. During this massage we can do a full body massage and focus on two areas.

120 minutes offers ultimate relaxation. This allows us to do a full body massage and focus on 2-4 areas.

What massage discounts and packages do you offer?

We offer massage memberships which allows members and their families to take advantage of discount pricing with every massage. We also offer prepaid massage packages. For a full list of these options, see massage pricing.

What about modesty?

Skin on skin contact is most effective during massage treatment, but patient comfort during the massage is our number one consideration.  You can leave on as much clothing or take off as much as you are comfortable with; it is not required to remove all clothing.  We use proper draping on all massages. Draping uses a sheet to cover private areas.
